The 2026 IFCPF World Championships got underway today in Loughborough, England, with an Opening Ceremony ahead of the first round-robin matches of the tournament.

Results:

  • Kazakhstan 0-8 CP Soccer US
  • Italy 12-0 Loughborough

The day began with the Opening Ceremony, bringing together all four competing nations - Italy, Kazakhstan, CP Soccer US and hosts Loughborough Para Football - before the first match kicked off at 11:00.

Kazakhstan's international debut got off to a tough start against a strong CP Soccer US side, with Anthony Martinez the standout performer, scoring five goals to be named Player of the Match in the tournament's opening fixture. Despite the scoreline, taking the pitch for their first-ever international competitive match marks a historic moment for the Kazakhstan programme.

In the day's second match at 14:30, Italy put in a dominant display against hosts Loughborough, running out 12-0 winners. Mattia Vareschi scored twice and was named Player of the Match.

The round robin continues tomorrow, August 19, with CP Soccer US facing Loughborough and Italy taking on Kazakhstan.
