Thailand Claims Double Gold in Blind and CP Football at 13th ASEAN Para Games
Thailand delivered an outstanding finale to the 13th ASEAN Para Games, securing gold medals in both Blind Football and Cerebral Palsy (CP) Football as the disciplines returned to the regional programme.
Thailand topped the overall medal table with 175 gold medals, reaffirming its status as a regional para-sport powerhouse. It was the first time since 2015 that Thailand reclaimed the overall championship. Indonesia finished second with 135 gold, while Malaysia placed third with 64 gold medals – an improved showing ahead of hosting the next Games in 2027.
Thailand's National Blind Football team secured their third consecutive ASEAN Para Games gold medal with a commanding 4-0 victory over Malaysia in the final on 25 January. The three-team competition also featured Laos, contributing to the discipline's continued growth in Southeast Asia.
In the evening final, Thailand's CP Football team delivered the host nation's final gold medal of the Games with a 1-0 victory over Myanmar. Chanatip Deeman's decisive strike in the 51st minute secured Thailand's return to the top of the podium after claiming bronze at the previous Games in Cambodia.
Earlier on 25 January, Indonesia captured bronze with a dominant 7-0 victory over Malaysia in the bronze medal match. The five-nation CP Football tournament featured Thailand, Myanmar, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines.
Para Football congratulates Thailand on their outstanding double gold medal performance, and extends congratulations to all participating nations – Malaysia, Myanmar, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Laos – for their dedication, sportsmanship, and performances throughout the competition. Each team played an important role in showcasing football for all.
The 13th ASEAN Para Games took place in Nakhon Ratchasima from 20-26 January, bringing together over 2,000 para athletes from across Southeast Asia to celebrate inclusion and equal opportunities in sport. The ASEAN Para Games will return in 2027 when Malaysia hosts the 14th edition in Kuala Lumpur.
